MEND’s Hours of Operation

MEND IS CLOSED ON MONDAYS AS A COST SAVINGS MEASURE

San Fernando Road:
Tuesday -Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Friday 8:00 a.m. to  5:00 p.m.
Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (Clothing donations on 2nd and 4th Saturday only)

Van Nuys Blvd:         
Tuesday – Fri 9:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
Saturday 9:30 a.m to 1:00 p.m.

Note:

All recipients of MEND services must have household incomes at or below the federal poverty guidelines (state guidelines for food). Also, clients must live in the MEND service area, which is: Pacoima, Arleta, Sylmar, Lake View Terrace, San Fernando, North Hills, Mission Hills.

Clothing Center

Program Coordinator: Veronica Soto

Days/Hours: Tuesday- Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Distribution Center Hours- Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 8:00 a.m. to  2:00 p.m., every 1st and 3rd Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. to  2:00 p.m., and every 2nd and 4th Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m..

Restrictions: Can receive assistance every thirty days (once monthly)

Need to bring: Picture ID; Proof of current address if the address on the ID is not current.

Donation : $3.00

Computer Lab

Program Coordinator: Mary Watanabe

Adults - Computer Classes: Tuesday and Thursday 1: 00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. 

Children - Homework Club:  Tuesday 3:00 p.m. to  5:00 p.m.; Open Computer Lab:  Wednesday and Thursday 3:00 p.m. to  6:00 p.m.; Saturday Academy:  Reading, Math, Computer Lab, and Science Club, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Occasional Field trips and special events.   Minimum age: 7 years  old or 2nd Grade.

*$5.00 donation suggested every 6  months

Education and Training Center Classes

English as a Second Language Classes
Days/Hours: Tuesday-Friday 9:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Tuesday-Thursday 6:30p.m. to  9:30 p.m.
Donation: $4.00 PLUS cost of books( $15 depending on class (level)
Restrictions: None. No one is turned away due to inability to pay
Other Info: Classes run 10-11 weeks; Call MEND for next class session.

   Computer Class
   Monday -Friday 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and  6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.   

Spanish Classes 
Days/Hours: Basic: Tuesday and  Thursday 3:00 p.m. to  4:30 p.m.
Reading & Writing Literacy Tuesday – Thursday 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Sewing Classes
Tuesday and  Thursday 12noon to  3:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:30 a.m. to  12:30 p.m.
*Donation: $25.00

Handicraft
Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p. m.

Emergency Food

Days/Hours:
MEND Center:  Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Our Lady of Peace Church, Sepulveda: 2nd and 4th Friday 9:00 a.m.  to 12:00 p.m.
Hansen Dam: hot meals served every Thursday 10:00 a.m.  to 12:00 p.m.
St. Didacus Church: every other Saturday of each month 12:00 p.m.  to  3:00 p.m. for Sylmar residents only. Call to confirm date: (818) 367-6181.

Need to bring: Picture ID; Proof of current address and family income, birth certificates for children.

Restrictions: Can receive assistance once a month from one site only; box includes 3-day supply of food.

Other Info: During non-program hours and on Saturdays, bread & fresh produce may be available at the MEND Center.

Note: Please call the MEND Food Office to ask about required income levels for food program eligibility.

Medical and Dental Services

Program Coordinators:

Days/Hours: Appointments MUST be made in person at the MEND Office Tuesday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Need to Bring: On the day of the interview, must bring Picture ID, proof of address and proof of income.

Restrictions: Clinic services are available only for patients who do NOT have Medi-Cal or private insurance and live in our service area.

Medical

Family Medicine - Every Wednesday 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (except every 3th Wednesday of the month), every Thurs. 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., 1st and 3rd Friday 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., 2nd and 4rd Friday 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Diabetes Clinic - 1st and 3rd Wednesday 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., 2nd Saturday of each month 9:00  a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Hypertension/Healthy Aging/Gynecolgy Clinic - 1st and 3rd Tuesday 1:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Chiropractic Clinic - Thursday 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., 1st and 3rd Friday 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. , and every last Tuesday of the month 9:00 a.m to 12:00 p.m.

Vision Clinic - 2nd and 3rd Wednesday 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Tuesday 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Acupuncture: Each Tuesday from 2:30 p.m to 5:00 p.m.

Dental

Dental Clinic schedule varies. Dental appointments made only after completion of an intake inteview. Intake interviews are given every third Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. Only 15 appointments will be raffled out per month.  

*Donation: $10.00 for each clinic each visit.

Need to Bring: On the day of the interview, must bring Picture ID, proof of address and proof of income.
Restrictions: Clinic services are available only for patients who do NOT have Denti-Cal or private insurance.
Other Info: Basic services provided on a very limited basis. Referals are given for more specialized services.

Other MEND Services/Programs

Home Visiting: Volunteers visit with recipient families in their homes; assess their needs; make referrals.

Job Skills Training Program: Participants learn entry-level skills in various employment fields through on-the-job training at MEND.

Food Service Training Program: Participants learn food services-related skills appropriate for entry-level positions in restaurants, hotel banquet services and catering services.

Sewing Program: Volunteers sew new clothes for children each Wednesday 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM at MEND.
