The third annual MENDing Poverty Conference Wednesday June 16, 2010 in Pacoima attracted almost 200 officials and advocates from regional antipoverty agencies and social service nonprofit groups.
Speakers included Connie L. Rice and Heather Grant as well as a few words from Richard Alarcon and Marianne Haver Hill. Antipoverty advocates brainstormed on collaborating and improving their work with federal, state and local governments to maximize programs and funding at a time of cutbacks. The MENDing poverty conference also held workshops to identify two or three "ideas for action" that will be shared in Report Backs to the full conference, and summarized in an Action Paper after the conference.
