Eva
She used to clean homes and care for children. Now health challenges make work nearly impossible. One of her two sons is incarcerated. The other visits when he can.
Eva comes to MEND's First Step services for the homeless once a week. She arrives laughing, greeting volunteers like family. "MEND feels like home," she says, eyes bright as she gathers hygiene supplies and food.
When you mention the people who make this possible, her face lights up. "I'm thankful for the help, for the people here who care."
Every Thursday, her laughter cuts through the pain. It reminds us that connection—real connection—can break isolation in ways nothing else can.
